LAITS Mission Statement:
We are dedicated to providing technology support for instruction, research, and administration throughout the College of Liberal Arts. This includes classroom technology, desktop computers, web sites, networks and servers, digital audio and video, and many other technologies both old and new. We also support new construction and renovation projects. Our particular focus is our faculty, and we will strive to provide whatever they require to succeed in their teaching and research.
Liberal Arts ITS provides video services for Faculty and Staff of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. Services include video transfers, transcoding, duplication, recording, editing, and post-production for course/web development projects.
Video Transfers and Duplication
Liberal Arts ITS has the facilities to transfer, transcode, and duplicate video among the three most common video standards: NTSC, PAL, and SECAM. Instructors must clear all copyright issues before duplication.
Formats for originals we accept include:
- VHS
- Mini-DV
- DVD
- 3/4″ U-Matic
- Digital-8
Available options for deliverables include:
- A link to download the video (active for 10 days)
- Embedded video in a standalone player for class use
- DVD
On a case-by-case basis, as time permits, Liberal Arts ITS has the facility to transfer existing video footage in one format to another format for playback on a computer (Mac / Windows) or DVD player. (Note: Discs should work in most DVD players that can read VCD and DVD-R formats.)
- Faculty and staff are charged a labor fee:
- Transcoding / Editing video – $22.00/Hour
- We accept payments only with a valid UT IDT account number.
Video Recording
The recording of video as a component of course/web development is undertaken by Liberal Arts ITS video services. This service is generally unavailable outside established projects.
Video Editing and Post-Production
Liberal Arts ITS provides video editing and post-production services for course/web development projects. Other editing and post-production video projects may be taken on by Video Services on a case-by-case basis. Editing and post-production is done on Macintosh computers using Final Cut Pro.
Equipment Loan
Video equipment is available for loan to College of Liberal Arts faculty. Items available include Mini-DV camcorders and production support equipment. Arrangements for the loan of equipment should be made in person in MEZ 2.104 or byemail.
